Yau-Man found the idol at Moto camp after receiving clues from Exile Island visits. He shared knowledge of the idol with his closest ally Earl Cole. At the Final 6 Tribal Council (Episode 13, 'I Wanna See If I Can Make a Deal'), Yau-Man played the idol on himself, negating 4 votes cast against him by Boo, Cassandra, Dreamz, and Stacy. Stacy Kimball was eliminated with 2 votes (from Earl and Yau-Man), becoming the first person in Survivor history to be voted out as a direct result of a Hidden Immunity Idol being played. This was the first successful idol play under the modern format (played before votes are read).

Mookie found the idol at the Ravu camp with the help of his Four Horsemen alliance members Alex Angarita and Edgardo Rivera. When Mookie revealed the idol's existence to Dreamz Herd, Dreamz became upset about being kept in the dark and flipped to the opposing alliance. Feeling vulnerable, Mookie gave the idol to Alex before the Episode 10 Tribal Council ('It's a Turtle?!'). Alex became the first person to play a Hidden Immunity Idol under the modern format (before votes read) but received zero votes. The opposing alliance, tipped off by Dreamz, pivoted their votes to Edgardo, who was blindsided in a 5-3-1 vote. This was the first unsuccessful idol play in Survivor history.

After the original Ravu idol was played, a new idol was rehidden. Earl found the rehidden idol on Day 31 after Boo won the Reward Challenge and sent Earl to Exile Island. Earl played the idol at the Final 4 Tribal Council (Episode 14) as it was the last opportunity to use it. He received no votes, making the play unnecessary - Boo was unanimously voted out. Earl went on to win the season with a perfect 9-0 jury vote, the first unanimous victory in Survivor history.
