๐ Advantages & Idols
Season 30: Worlds Apart
Carolyn Rivera (Day 2, Ep 1)
Day 35, Episode 13
For: Carolyn Rivera
5 votes negated
Carolyn is tied with Kristina Kell and Sabrina Thompson for the second earliest discovery of a Hidden Immunity Idol by a woman, finding one on Day 2. She looked for the idol after seeing Joaquin and So looking for it, and she found the idol without clues. She kept this idol secret for 33 days until playing it on Day 35 in Episode 13 'My Word Is My Bond'. At that tribal, Dan used his extra vote advantage and cast both votes for Carolyn, but she successfully played her idol, negating five votes (from Dan, Dan's extra vote, Will, Rodney, and Sierra), saving herself and blindsiding Dan who was voted out instead.
Jenn Brown (Day 9, Ep 4)
Day 19, Episode 7
For: Jenn Brown
7 votes negated
Jenn, who is vegetarian, found the No Collar's idol on Day 9 in Episode 4 when the tribe decided to celebrate Will's birthday with a chicken dinner. While her tribemates were preoccupied, Jenn wandered off to get firewood and used this alone time to search for and find Nagarote's Hidden Immunity Idol. She played it at the merge tribal council in Episode 7 on Day 19. Jenn used an essential sense of perception and intuition to realize that the votes were coming to her (not Hali) and correctly played her idol. This was one of the most perfectly played idols in recent memory, voiding 7 votes (from Kelly, Dan, Mike, Rodney, Sierra, Tyler, and Carolyn). She tied the record set by Russell Hantz in Samoa for most votes negated by an idol. Kelly Remington was voted out instead. Jenn was the youngest woman to find a hidden immunity idol at the time. She lasted several more days before being voted out on Day 27.
Mike Holloway (Day 22, Ep 8)
Day 32, Episode 12
For: Mike Holloway
4 votes negated
After Joe won a Reward Challenge in Episode 8, he received a clue to a Hidden Immunity Idol which he showed to Tyler. Mike caught them and Tyler told Mike about the clue. Though Joe could not find the idol, Mike decided to frame him by claiming that he saw Joe find it, which sidelined Joe from continuing his search. While Joe led a beach yoga session, Mike hustled and eventually found the idol wedged in a tree, finding it with tears in his eyes on approximately Day 22. To keep the target on Joe, Mike made a big show of Joe having the idol. Mike played this idol perfectly in Episode 12 'Holding On for Dear Life' on Day 32, voiding four votes against him (from Rodney, Dan, Will, and Tyler), saving himself from elimination. The majority six alliance was forced to vote out one of its own instead - Tyler Fredrickson was blindsided in a 3-0 vote (after Mike's 4 votes were negated). Mike is the first eventual Sole Survivor to use a Hidden Immunity Idol successfully in the season they won.
Dan Foley (Day 25, Ep 9)
Day 35, Episode 13
For: Dan Foley
0 votes negated
Dan Foley purchased the first-ever extra vote advantage in Survivor history at the Survivor Auction on Day 25 (Episode 9). Dan, Carolyn Rivera, and Mike Holloway agreed to all spend $20 on their letters and then go head-to-head-to-head for the advantage. Mike ended up paying for his letter and lost out on the advantage to Dan. Dan paid $480 at the auction to enter and win the rock draw for the extra vote advantage. Dan's advantage was discovered when Tyler Fredrickson went through his bag, so everyone was well-aware that Dan held this advantage. Dan used it on Day 35 in Episode 13 'My Word Is My Bond', putting both of his votes on Carolyn. However, Carolyn played her Hidden Immunity Idol, negating all votes against her, and Dan was voted out instead (receiving 3 votes from Mike, Carolyn, and Sierra). This was the introduction of the extra vote mechanic to Survivor.
Joe Anglim (creator) (Day None, Ep 9)
Joe Anglim, using his expertise as a jewelry designer, made a fake idol using wood from a crate and pieces from his torch. Joe made a deal with Mike Holloway to give Mike the 'idol' if Mike could swing the votes in his favor to stay in the game and send Jenn Brown home. In Episode 9, Mike played Joe's fake idol on Will Sims II at Tribal Council and learned that it was indeed a fake. Nothing happened as it was not a real idol. This fake idol play is notable for Joe's craftsmanship and the attempt to deceive Mike.
